MER Clinic: Modeling Plaster Structures

Presented by Ron Baile @ MER Princeton 2010

I have quite a few plaster buildings on my railroad. Seldom do I see any on other people’s railroads that I visit. These are, I believe, unique structures that can be modified and kit-bashed too. Sometimes you can change the whole look of a building just by painting it differently, installing a different roof, or adding additional wood or plastic trim. My clinic is a Power Point presentation about how I build plaster structure kits. I’ll also address the issue of attempting to build your own custom made plaster buildings and also cover a few that a friend has made over the years. It runs 20 to 30 minutes depending on questions asked and comments made. I try to have a Q&A session at the end but questions are welcome at any time. No special tools are needed. Most of what you need for this you probably already have. A lot of time is spent on how to color bricks and stone for a realistic looking finish. A four page handout is available and I would appreciate it if the sponsoring organization covers the cost of copying. Please note that this is a “Living” clinic and will be upgraded as additional information and photos become available.
